Personal Development – The Importance of High Self Esteem

POSTED BY on Apr 25, 2012 under Personal Development

Improving your self esteem is an important aspect of personal development, since if your own value of yourself is low then you are going to project that self effacement to others. That will do little for your personal advancement and you are likely to spend your life in the background. Leaders have a high degree of self esteem, and that is a quality that can be improved using techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy or by the simple advice given below.

A fundamental fact of personal development is that everybody is born with the same self esteem. We believe ourselves to be the center of the universe – any baby that knows a single cry brings them all they want can tell you that! How it develops after that is up to us, our teaching and our environment. Some develop a strong feeling of self-worth while others become self effacing and shrinking violets.

Time Management and Team Development – The Yes and No of It

Sometimes.

In fact making some small changes to the circumstances when we use these two little words, can make all the difference. And it takes practice.

Time Management

Saying ‘Yes’ More…

…brings help when we are offered it. How often have you turned down support, because it felt easier to say ‘No thanks. I’m fine’? How often have you rejected assistance in all sorts of places and circumstances? Sometimes it seems like the thing to do – a force of habit. But saying ‘Yes’, truly can be a help for you. But there is more. When you say ‘Yes’, you build relationships with who is offering.

Why Do We Need Personal Development to Be Successful?

POSTED BY on Mar 31, 2012 under Personal Development

In order to really answer that, we need to define what we mean by personal development. In my opinion, personal development is:

Growth as a conscious human being
Activities that improve self-knowledge and identity
Development of talents and potential
Development in different areas of life
Building of human capital and employability
Enhancing the quality of life
Contributing to the realization of dreams and aspirations
Is not limited to self-development but includes formal and informal activities for developing others
In the context of institutions, it refers to the methods, programs, tools, techniques, and assessment systems that support human development at the individual level in organizations
(hard) work that requires discipline, determination, consistency, patience, time, courage, forgiveness

Personal Development – The Dysfunction of the Herd

During a recent radio interview where we were discussing that, in fact, even though stress causes all manner of problems – from the twitch in the show host’s eye (he said he had one but the interview was by ‘phone so I suspect he was joking) to insomnia, digestive problems, heart disease and death – stress does not actually exist, other than in the mind of the sufferer; the host made the point that, with the state of the US economy at present, many people are stressed out, fearing that they’ll lose their jobs whilst, of course, many people are stressed out because they already have. We live in desperate times, he contended.

What is Your 4 Step Personal Development Plan?

POSTED BY on Feb 20, 2012 under Personal Development

Your personal development plan contains 4 distinct steps.

Decide to improve your life. Research PD books and programs. Practice what is preached and persist.

Personal Development

Let’s discuss

Decide To Improve Your Life

Way to go, Captain Obvious! I know, that’s what you are thinking.

The problem is that the majority of people never make this decision. They complain, bitch and moan for their entire lives. Their life passes and they never made a firm and definite decision to improve their lives.

This idea is known as the principle of contrast. Figure out what you don’t want and decide on what you do want. It’s like saying that you don’t like vanilla ice cream and deciding that you want chocolate. Until you decide that you want chocolate and move into action toward grabbing the chocolate cone, you aren’t going to get it.

Personal Development – Just How Is It Defined?

POSTED BY on Dec 12, 2011 under Personal Development

Personal development can be defined as self improvement. It is a process of moving from point A to point B in one’s own life and the course between the two points is usually considered to be in an upward direction.

Personal development is important to not put too tight a definition on the term. This is because it is a highly individual process of self improvement. Too often, personal development ends up being measured against the progress of others, but this misses the true purpose. The process is to move from Point A to Point B. Point A is defined as where you are now and Point B is where you want to be in the future.

Personal Development & Success – "Creating the Motivation You Need"

POSTED BY on Oct 19, 2011 under Personal Development

Have you ever heard someone say something like, “I haven’t felt motivated lately,” or, “I’ll do it as soon as I feel motivated enough?” I know that I have and, truth be known, am guilty of using these and similar phrases myself. You see, I, like many others, used to believe that action only happens through motivation. That, I must wait around for the so-called “feeling to move me” before I will get anything accomplished.

Well, I was wrong. And I believe that I was wrong for two reasons. First is that I was unable to see the ‘big picture’ – the reason that the ‘thing’ had to be done in the first place and how that ‘thing’ relates to other things that I wanted to accomplish, do, enjoy, etc.

Child’s Creativity: Make an Environment That Encourages Creative Thinking and Personal Development

POSTED BY on Oct 4, 2011 under Personal Development

From the day we started school, we have been programmed think inside the box. It starts with the obvious; Johnny, I like the use of color but a cow isn’t green. Or, even more subtly with, Suzie, what is that? Oh…okay…um nice job.

At home we continue to reinforce the thinking inside the box mentality. We tell our children that anything is possible. But, do we really believe it. We all see the lives of kids where the parents are fully behind the child’s passion. What do we say? They are crazy, Billy isn’t talented and smart enough to ever become an astronaut. What are his parents thinking, sending him to summer camps, extra curricular science classes and, encouraging him to become a fighter pilot. Are they nuts. They don’t get it, Billy isn’t the sharpest pencil in the drawer.
