The Reward Motivation Technique

POSTED BY on Aug 9, 2011 under Self Improvement

We all go through hard times. In such situations, we think of things that we should have done better. We should have maintained a healthy life style; we should have got ourselves educated or we should have tried to find a better job. Even using all of these, sometimes it is hard to motivate ourselves to make the right changes.

In any case, positive motivation works the best. Negative motivation will not get much done.

Self Improvement

For example, if you are a chain smoker, then you have to quit the habit yourself. You will have to work your way out of it. No one can help you out of it. There is much negative motivation available too.

You know that smoking means that not only you are risking your health; you are also affecting the health of those around you. You know that this habit is generally not appreciated. However, this type of motivation is not of much help.

Instead of focusing on what bad will happen if you continue to smoke, concentrate on what good will come your way, if you give up this habit. Quitting will prevent you from wasting your money. You can use that money on something else — say a nice vacation.

This is an example of reward system. This is used in schools to train children. Children are awarded with stars if they do their work right. Punishing them by warning about possible expulsion does not help generate the desired response.

In conclusion, if you are trying to find motivation to make some changes in your life, look on the positive side. Do not count the things that will go wrong if you do not make the change. Count the things that will go right, if you are successful.

Positive motivation will definitely get you where you want to be in a quick time.
