Self-Esteem Games
Self-esteem games are great because they make raising self-esteem fun. Some people think that working on your self-esteem is supposed to be tedious, time-consuming and difficult. This is wrong! Raising your self-esteem is much more effective when you have fun. If your self-esteem exercises are make you happy you will want to do them over and over again. Your self-esteem will climb up at a very high speed.
Self-esteem games don’t have to be complicated. Basically, any activity that makes you feel good about yourself and that is fun is a self-esteem game. Sometimes simple is more. For example, when I constructed the game for self-esteem that I’m selling on my website, I simply collected a number of self-esteem exercises or activities based on my book The Self-Esteem Toolbox and then wrote them down on small cards. As long as you know that the self-esteem activities that you include in your game are effective, you can make any kind of game.
Self Esteem
When I think about self-esteem-raising games, I think about two different kinds. The first kind is a classic boardgame or card game or any other kind of game that you play while sitting around a table. The other kind is a game that you play while moving around or without any items (such as a board or cards). Both kinds are good. The game that I have created is made up of cards that you place on a table in any order you wish. You then use a dice to move from start to goal. The first person to reach goal obviously wins. For each card that you land on you have to follow the instructions of that specific card. Most of the cards have fun self-esteem exercises on them but some cards allow you to swap places with another player, move forward, move backwards etc. In other words, I have mixed self-esteem exercises with classical board game traditions. You can use the same principle to create a similar game, or you can come up with a more physically active self-esteem game.
One way of making games that raise your self-esteem without using self-esteem playing cards, is to make competitions. I always include lots of self-esteem competition games in the self-esteem courses that I lead. It can be very simple. For example, make teams and the first team that writes down 20 positive qualities that its team members possess wins. Alternatively, make a competition out of giving compliments to each other. The team or person who gives the most compliments wins.
You don’t necessarily need many people to play games that raise your self-esteem. It is perfectly possible to play games with yourself. Give yourself one point whenever you think a positive thought about yourself, when you achieve one of your goals, when you give another person a compliment, or whenever you do something else that is good for your self-esteem. Try to break your own record every day. The game with cards that I produced can also be played on your own. By playing self-esteem games on your own you don’t need to wait for the opportunity when you all your acquaintances gathered in the same place. You can play at any time you wish.
Play self-esteem games, have fun and higher self-esteem will follow!
