Want your own profitable home based business? You can turn your writing skill to profit, and have lots of fun while you’re doing it, by writing articles. Here’s how to get started.
Firstly, a word of warning. There are effective and ineffective ways to turn writing articles into a home business. If you want to be successful, and make more money that you ever could at your day job, you need a plan.

1. Find affiliate products to promote
Your first step is to realize that your articles are advertising. They trade information for a click to a merchant, or to your own Web site. I don’t want to belabor this point too much, but keep it at the front of your mind.
Next, you need some affiliate products to promote. There are many affiliate networks you can join. Which you choose will depend on your own inclinations. However, choose products you can write about easily, because you use the products yourself.
The easier you can make article writing, the more income you will make.
2. Create a Web site to act as your home base
If someone tells you you can make a great income writing articles without a Web site, they’re wrong.
You’re setting up a business, remember? Just as a shopkeeper needs a shop, you need a Web site. Without a site, you’ll make the occasional sale, but you’re not building a business and you’re wasting time and energy.
If you don’t have a penny to your name, create a free Web site. Use your first few dollars of income to buy a domain name and hosting. With your own site, your articles will keep earning for you for years to come.
3. Test – look at your statistics. What sells?
Writing articles is all about making sales. However, these sales happen over time. So check your statistics once a month. You’ll find that some articles sell in your first month, so write more articles covering the same topic.
Some articles won’t sell for you until they’ve been online for four months or longer, so keep good records. You may be amazed that an article does nothing at all, and gets very few clicks, but then makes three sales for you in as many days.
So there you have a plan you can implement right away, to get your article writing home business off the ground. Before you know it, you’ll be kissing your day job good-bye.
